Here, the peace you find in nature can take your imagination back to 1953, when the Lago Negro Dam was built. The idea of making a lake came 10 years earlier, when there was a fire in the woods.
To try to contain the fire, residents opened a crack in the ground and ended up finding a slope, which would be the beginning of Lago Negro. He was open to hoe, spade and pickaxe blows. The area is 17 thousand m2 - the size of two official football fields.
Leopoldo Rosenfeldt coordinated the work. He came up with the idea of reforesting the burned area with pine trees brought in from the Black Forest in Germany - hence the lake's name. In addition, these pines provide a lot of shade on the lake, “darkening” the water.
Years ago, a lot of people took a bath here. In the second half of the 20th century, so that visitors could sunbathe after swimming, there was a kind of sandy beach.
It was the Sunday walk for residents of Gramado and vacationers, who spent the day when the heat was too much. Today swimming is prohibited for safety reasons - in some places, the depth reaches 14 meters. Not to mention the very cold water - imagine in winter!
If you're here in the summer, frame your look - and maybe your photos - with hydrangeas, whose color varies according to the pH of the soil. In spring, azaleas color the landscape.
In this green area of almost 90 thousand m2, there are also cypress trees, a fragrant plant even indicated for circulatory problems.
How about a walk around the lake? Along the way, you'll find restrooms and a place to eat. Also, a grotto with the image of Our Lady - if it's your faith, a chance to give thanks for the trip and life.
We wish you a great tour!
